LonLong Prairie filmmaker organizes festival at drive-in
LONG PRAIRIE – Andrew Ring is reaching out to fellow filmmakers for a festival he's putting together in Long Prairie.
"I've had my films rejected so many times by bigger film festivals," the Long Prairie resident says. "I'm really, really trying to put together something unique."
Ring has tried to organize the festival at the local drive-in, Long Drive-In Theatre, in the past but been hung up; the drive-in's digital conversion makes his idea possible. It also spawned from a discussion at Long Prairie's downtown revitalization group.
An entry for the CraziFlix Film Fest "doesn't have to be any genre-specific film," Ring said. Ideally a film would be two to five minutes, but the festival will accept some films up to, but not exceeding, 30 minutes in length (hence the event's slogan: "Show us the thing you do best in 30 minutes or less.")
Awards will be given to first-, second- and third-place winners.
Here are more guidelines:
• All films must be family friendly (G-rated) for consideration.
• All films should have been completed within the past two years.
• Entry fee is $10 (nonrefundable).
• Multiple entries per filmmaker will be accepted.
• All submissions must be accompanied by an entry form.
• If submissions exceed the allotted time, some films may not be shown.
• All entries must be received no later than June 30.

Press Release
Long Prairie Film Festival at Local Drive-In
The Long Prairie Film Festival, also known as CraziFlix, is part of a three day event called Crazy Dayz. The festival is scheduled to be held Thursday, July 10 at Long Drive In from 10 P.M. – 1 A.M. The event will be followed by an awards ceremony on Friday, July 11 from 5:30 P.M. – 6 P.M., also at Long Drive-In. There will be three People’s Choice Awards and a People’s Choice Honorable Mention. CraziFlix is looking for short films that are less than 30 minutes, although half hour films will be accepted. All selected filmmakers will receive a commemorative t-shirt in honor of the festival’s first year. Entry fees are $10 per submission. Multiple entries per filmmaker will also be accepted. Entries must be mailed by Monday, June 30 to be considered to be shown at Long Drive In.
CraziFlix is a film festival set in one of the last continuously operating drive ins in the state. The organizers of this event are proud to have the ability to show short films by amateur and independent filmmakers from around the state. Andrew Ring, the festival coordinator said, “I had this idea for a local film festival for a couple years, but it wasn’t until recently that drive ins switched completely to digital systems. The rise of digital media to drive ins finally paved the way for us to easily show independent works.” The film festival began as an idea to revitalize Long Prairie at the town’s downtown revitalization group. Once the group determined that the film festival was a go they formed a subcommittee.
